My ego, reason, and pride (ok, and bank account) all say “stay in the job” but my gut says “run like hell.” I replied: “If you’re going to leave anyway, I don’t think sticking it six months is any more useful than just starting to look now.
Some are honest enough with themselves that they know step-by-step how everything came to be as it is now.
Others have more difficulty, their mind confused because what they are doing is so contrary to what they believe and value. Others blame it on their spouse’s actions or lack of actions.
Unfortunately, despite me asking questions in the interview process about work/life balance — and explaining that if this is a “no personal life” job, I’m not the right candidate — but there is none. I’m pulling 70-hour weeks, which is not what we discussed during interviewing.
I get maybe half a day off each Sat/Sun and I spend most of that time trying to catch up on sleep. The only silver lining is that a new high-ranking colleague wants to create work-life balance.
